BISMARCK, N.D. – The Montana State Billings
men’s soccer team, coming off a win against Mary on Friday,
stumbled 2-0 in a non-conference neutral game against
Westminster College on Sunday in Bismarck, N.D. The
Yellowjackets fall to 10-4-1 overall, while the Griffins
improved to 13-4.
The Yellowjackets outshot the Griffins 10-9
overall and held a 5-3 shots on goal advantage but were unable
to capitalize on their opportunities. The Griffins’ Crimson
Turner fired a shot that deflected off a Yellowjacket defender
and into the net at the 25:51 mark, scoring what would become
the eventual game-winner. Dave Rogers was credited with the
assist.
The Jackets were looking for the equalizer
goal until Westminster’s Sean Aslett broke through the Jackets’
back line in the 68th minute taking a crossing pass through the
box from his teammate Dino Busuladzic. Aslett powered the shot
into the left corner of the net to give the Griffins an
insurance goal.
“It just wasn’t our day today,” said
Yellowjacket head coach Dan McNally. “We played well, but
sometimes it just doesn’t work out. The guys played hard and I
am proud of them.”
Five different Yellowjackets took attempts
on goal keeping the Griffins’ keeper Kimball Parker busy.
Parker tackled five saves in preserving the win. The
Yellowjackets Sander
Tollefson (Missoula, MT) made one save in the first half of
play.
“We need to practice hard this week in
preparation for our game against Jamestown,” added McNally. “We
need to get a good result against Jamestown and be ready and
focused for our conference game against Seattle Pacific next
Monday.”
