     Season Stats

BILLINGS, Mont. – 14th-ranked Alaska Anchorage extended its season-best winning streak to 14 games with a 79-43 victory over Montana State Billings Saturday evening at Alterowitz Gym.  With the loss, the Yellowjackets fall to 1-17 on the year and 1-6 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.  UAA improves to 16-3 and 7-0 in conference play.

MSUB was led by freshman Aaron Terry (Moreno Valley, Calif.) with 16 points, fellow freshmen Kirk Blaine (Gillette, Wyo.) chipped in a career-high 13 points and Brett Taylor (Billings) added 10.  The Seawolves had two players in double figures, led by a game-high 24 points from Carl Arts.  He was 10 of 17 from the field and pulled down nine rebounds.

The upset-minded Yellowjackets held with the Seawolves for a good portion of the first half.  With just over nine minutes left in the half, UAA took the lead for good on a hoop-and-the-harm jumper in the lane by Arts, giving UAA a 15-14 advantage.  From that moment on, the Seawolves outscored MSUB 21-9 for a 37-23 lead at halftime.

For the half the Yellowjackets were led by Terry with 11 points as he was 4 of 7 from the field and 3 of 4 from beyond the arc.  As a team, MSUB was just 8 of 21 from the field for 38 percent and 5 of 11 from beyond the arc.  The Yellowjackets were just 2 of 7 from the line.

The Seawolves, who struggled early in the half, caught fire thanks to a pair of 14-point scorers from Arts and Chris Bryant.  Arts was 6 of 9 from the field and Bryant was 5 of 9, but was 4 of 8 from beyond the arc.  As a team, UAA was 15 of 33 from the field and 6 of 15 from beyond the arc.  The Seawolves went to the line just one time and converted.

The second half began as UAA increased its lead to 26 with an 18-6 run over the first six minutes.  The Seawolves poured it on, building a 38-point advantage with 3:30 left and going away with the 79-43 victory.

The Yellowjackets begin a four-game road trip at Western Washington on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. Mountain time.  MSUB will be back at Alterowitz Gym Thurs., Feb. 14 against Western Oregon.
