San Bernardino Rolls Past Jackets at Disney

ANAHEIM, Calif. – Cal State San Bernardino scored the first 12 points of the game and never looked back Saturday, defeating Montana State Billings 84-52 at the Disney’s DII West Coast Tip Off Classic. The Coyotes remained unbeaten at 2-0 while the Yellowjackets fell to 0-2.
The Yellowjackets stopped their scoreless drought four minutes into the game when Jeff Miner was fouled on a 3-point attempt and sank all three free throws. However, MSUB did not connect on a field goal until the game was nine minutes old. By the time Troy Ruff knocked down a 3-pointer with 11 minutes to go in the first half, the Yellowjackets trailed 22-6.
The Coyotes made seven of their 10 3-pointers in the first half to build a 45-22 halftime lead. CSUSB shot 58 percent from the field in the opening half and 49 percent for the game. The Jackets were held to just 18.5 percent shooting in the first half and 28.6 percent in the game.
San Bernardino used its bench liberally with 15 players seeing action in the game. Thirteen of the 15 scored, led by 23 points from Lance Ortiz. He was 9-of-11 from the field and 5-of-7 from behind the arc. Marlon Pierce scored nine points, and David Reichel and Steve Gaston each added eight.
The Yellowjackets were led by 12 points from Aaron Terry. The freshman was 5-of-10 from the field and 2-of-2 from the line. As a team, MSUB was 13-of-14 from the charity stripe. Brett Taylor scored nine points on 3-of-7 shooting from 3-point. Ruff and Brean Tenant each added seven points.
