BILLINGS, MT – The Montana
State-Billings soccer team used an early
Brittney Sandau goal to edge visiting Dallas Baptist 1-0 on
Thursday afternoon. The win improved the Yellowjackets to
11-1-0 and kept them unbeaten in four games at home this
season. Dallas Baptist dropped to 6-4-0.
Sandau (Billings, MT) scored
the game winner at 14:54 when she weaved through the Patriot
defense and beat goalkeeper Emily Evans in a one-on-one battle.
The goal was Sandau’s seventh of the season and her third game
winner.
“Mandy
(Ploskonka)
was on the sideline, and she chipped it to the middle over the
defense,” said Sandau. “I ran to it, was one-one-one with the
keeper, and just put it past her.”
The Yellowjackets had five
other shots on goal in the first half, but all five resulted in
saves by Evans. The Jackets dominated the opening 45 minutes of
play and eventually out-shot the Patriots 16-8 in the game.
Evans finished the game with six saves while her counterpart,
Megan Plank (Phoenix, AZ) made four.
“I think we did good to get
the shutout and the win,” said Sandau. “probably could have
scored a few more goals, but overall we did what we needed to
do. I definitely think we have room to improve. We’re doing
well as a team, but I think we can even be better. I think we
have to get better in order to reach our goals.”
The Yellowjackets next play
October 6 when they travel to Denver to take on Metro State, the
second-ranked team in the country. The Roadrunners have won
56-straight home games dating back to 2002. MSUB will also play
at Regis, another of the Midwest Region’s top teams, on October
8. The Jackets’ next home game will be October 13 against St.
Mary’s (TX). |
