Lady Jackets Complete Round Two at GCU Invite (3/27/08)
Final Results
GOODYEAR, AZ – Following
thirty-six holes of golf, the Montana State-Billings
women’s golf team finished nineteenth in the 20-team
field at the Grand Canyon Invitational Tuesday. The
Lady Jackets shot a 355 and 361 for a combined 716 in
the tournament.
Tarleton State cruised to a first
place finish in the team competition with rounds of 299
and 315 for a two-round total 614. Tarleton State was
the only team in the invitational to break 300. Eight
strokes back and taking second was Western New Mexico.
The Mustangs carded rounds of 305 and 317 for a 622.
Central Oklahoma shaved 12 strokes off their first round
319 to shoot a second round 307 for a combined 626. The
hot shooting moved Central Oklahoma from tenth place
following round one to third place overall while Cal
State-Monterey Bay slipped five spots to the number
eight position with rounds of 306 and 327 for a 633.
Host team Grand Canyon held onto fourteenth place with a
328 and 339 for a 667.
The individual leader board saw
Denise Canadas emerge as the top golfer in the invite.
Canadas from Chico State moved from fifth to first with
rounds of 74 and 75 for a combined five-over 149. There
was a three-way tie for second between Heather Dorris,
Mari Suursalu, and Alesha Hurt with a two-day total 150.
Carding a two-under par 70 following the first round,
day-one leader Catherin Kim of Western Washington
tumbled from first all the way to a tie for thirteenth
after shooting an 85 on day two for a combined 155.
Emily
Maag (Colstrip, MT) and Amy
Nordeen (Hamilton, MT) finished in a tie for
seventieth place with a two-day total 171. Halley Montalban (Billings, MT) climbed two spots to
finish eighty-third with rounds of 89 and 91 for a 180. Jessica Boyer (Billings, MT) and Nicole Salsbery (Malta, MT) placed eighty-ninth and
ninety-four respectively.
