MSUB Volleyball Splits at FLC Tourney

DURANGO, CO – The Montana
State-Billings volleyball wrapped up a successful Hampton Inn
Classic on Saturday, splitting two matches against tough
competition. The Yellowjackets opened the day with a 3-2 loss
to 18th-ranked Seattle Pacific before closing the
tournament with a 3-2 upset of previously unbeaten Fort Lewis
College. After the first two weeks of the season, the
Yellowjackets are 5-3 overall.
The Yellowjackets made
nationally-ranked Seattle Pacific go the distance for the 30-27,
20-30, 30-23, 23-30, 15-12 win.
Ali Watson
(Calgary, AB),
Alicia Cazemier (Vauxhall, AB) and
Jessica Bratton (Casper, WY) all posted double-digit kills
for the Yellowjackets. Watson knocked down 15 kills to go with
seven digs. Cazemier had a team-high 17 kills and was in on
seven blocks. Bratton added 10 kills.
Natalie Bills (Provo, UT) handed out 46 assists and had 16
digs.
Alexis Sandru (Twin Bridges, MT),
Taylor
Faught (Billings, MT) and
Nicole
Kruse (Huntley, MT) each recorded 14 digs. Seattle Pacific
was led by Alyssa Given’s 20 kills and 14 digs. Jessica
Bettencourt had 16 kills and nine blocks.
The tournament’s final match
between MSUB and Fort Lewis started late and went the full five
games with the Yellowjackets prevailing 33-35, 30-28, 30-26,
24-30, 15-10. Bratton pounded out 29 kills on a .224 attack
percentage. Watson finished with a career-high 28 kills and 25
digs. Cazemier added 16 kills and seven blocks, and Jessica
Lechner had seven kills. Bills tied her career high with 66
assists.
The Yellowjackets had 138 digs
as a team. Faught had a career-high 27 digs to lead the
Yellowjackets. Sandru, Bills and Kruse also posted more than 20
digs apiece. The Skyhawks were led by Nicole Schwab’s 28
kills. Sara Feehan had 33 digs.
The Yellowjackets have one
early season tournament remaining before beginning the heart of
their schedule. They will play at the Heartland Conference/Lone
Star Conference Crossover Tournament next weekend in Wichita
Falls, TX. MSUB faces Central Oklahoma, Texas A&M-Commerce and
Southwestern Oklahoma State at the tournament. The
Yellowjackets will remain in Texas following the tournament to
take on Texas-Permian Basin on September 11 and 12. |
