AUSTIN, TX – The Montana State-Billings
men’s soccer team was not able to overcome the stifling heat
or the St. Edward’s Hilltoppers on Sunday, falling 2-0. The
loss dropped the Yellowjackets to 2-8-0 overall. St. Edward’s
improved to 3-6-0. The Yellowjackets will finish their road
trip to Texas on Tuesday, playing at St. Mary’s University in
San Antonio.
Sunday’s game was briefly cancelled last
week as Texas prepared for Hurricane Rita. With the storm
veering far to the east, however, the Yellowjackets and
Hilltoppers played the game as originally scheduled. The
effects of the storm were nowhere in sight Sunday afternoon as
temperatures in Austin pushed well over 105 degrees.
“The heat was unbelievable,” said
Yellowjacket coach Dan McNally. “I think everyone is tired of
playing on the road and ready for the four home games we have
coming up. The mentality of the team is still very positive.
I enjoy coaching them. Everyone is still working hard. We’ll
just keep working on getting a couple wins in the next few
weeks.”
Just one of the Yellowjackets’ ten games
this season has been at home. After next Tuesday’s game in
San Antonio, MSU Billings will play four straight home games
starting October 1 against Colorado Christian.
The Hilltoppers out-shot the
Yellowjackets 15-6 overall, although both teams managed four
shots on goal apiece. St. Ed’s scored on a pair of goals from
Robert Descant, one coming in the first half and one in the
second. Four different Yellowjackets had shots on goal.
MSU Billings goalkeeper Jess Feldtman (Sr., Lander, WY) made two saves and allowed
two goals. The Hilltoppers’ Scotty McNabb stopped all four
shots on goal he faced. |
