Yellowjackets Fall in Four at Chaminade (Oct. 1, 2004)

Honolulu, HI – Montana State-Billings lost in
four games to Chaminade Friday night, dropping the Yellowjackets
to 1-3 in the PacWest volleyball standings (8-5 overall). The
Yellowjackets won the first game before dropping three straight to
lose 32-34, 30-23, 30-22, 30-19. The Silverswords improved to 4-1
in league play and 9-3 overall.
Chaminade’s Patti Hardimon led a solid
hitting night for the Silverswords, who hit .228 as a team to the
Yellowjackets’ .106. Hardimon knocked down 19 kills on 34
attempts with just four errors for a .441 hitting percentage.
Four players reached double-digit kills for Chaminade. Marijana
Stanic finished with 15, Kahala Kabalis added 14, and Valasi
Sepulona had 13. The PacWest volleyball race now appears to be a
two-team affair between Chaminade and eighth-ranked Hawaii Pacific
(5-0, 11-1).
The Yellowjackets struggled on the attack for
most of the evening. Jessica
Bratton (So., OH, Casper, WY) and Andrea
Donahue (Sr., MB, Whitefish, MT) were the most productive for
MSU Billings at the net. Bratton had 17 kills on a .208 hitting
percentage. Donahue added 10 kills and three blocks.
Alicia
Cazemier (Fr., MB, Vauxhall, Alberta) finished with eight
kills and two blocks as she continued to have a solid freshman
season. Kari Jones (Sr., MB, Hermiston, OR) was in on six blocks off
the bench.
The Yellowjackets wrap up the Hawaii trip on
Saturday night when they play at Hawaii-Hilo. A win against the
Vulcans would give MSU Billings a four-match split in Hawaii for
the first time ever. The Jackets defeated BYU-Hawaii on Monday
before losing to Hawaii Pacific on Tuesday and Chaminade on
Friday.
