Lady Jackets Improve to Thirteenth (Mar. 5, 2005)
Boerne, TX – After struggling on
day one of the Lady Rattler Hill Country Classic hosted
by St. Mary’s University, the Yellowjackets were able to lower their score by twenty-two strokes, placing them
thirteenth overall. The tournament was held at Tapatio
Springs Resort in Boerne, Texas and concludes the first
36-holes of competition for the Lady Jackets this
season.
“We had a slight improvement on
today’s game,” said head coach Roger Bruckley. “It was
fun to compete against teams that will be in our
conference starting next year. The tournament was a
good experience and we look forward to the rest of the
season,” Bruckley added.
Texas Christian held onto their
team lead from day one shooting 319 and 308 for a 627.
Defending Heartland Conference champions and tournament
host St. Mary’s, rose to second overall after standing
in fourth after round one. The Rattlers shot 329 and
301 for a 630 combined. Rounding out the top three
teams is Tarleton State. They began round two in second
place and fell five strokes off the pace ending with 321
and 314 for a 635. The Yellowjackets shot rounds of 388
and 366 for a combined 754 to improve to thirteenth in
the team competition.
Carrie Morris of TCU led the first
round of competition shooting a 74 but shot ten over par
with an 82 in round two falling to a tie for seventh.
Ashley Kelley from Central Oklahoma was seventh in the
individual standings after day one. Kelley shot a par
72 round today making her the overall champion with 80
and 72 for a 152. Freshman Halley Montalban (Fr.,
Billings, MT) led the Jackets in the individual
competition shooting her way to a tie for thirty-seventh
place with a 88 and 82 for 170. Teammate Amanda
Rabenberg (Fr., Livingston, MT) moved up eight spots to
hold seventy-first place shooting 101 and 88 for a
combined 189.
The Lady Jackets have next week off
and then will compete in the Spring Rocky Mountain Cup
Tournament March 14 and 15 on their home course
Briarwood.
