Lady Jacket Golf in Twentieth Place (Mar. 28, 2005)
Phoenix, AZ- After the first 18-holes of golf, the Lady
Jackets find themselves in twentieth place in the team
standing shooting a 367 on day one of competition. The
women’s golf team traveled to Phoenix, Arizona March
28-29 to compete in the Grand Canyon University Spring
Invitational hosted by Grand Canyon University.
The race for the top three places
in the team competition is tight, separated by only one
stroke each. Drury University leads the team standings
shooting a round of 311. One stroke back in second
place is Western New Mexico with a 312. Western
Washington shot a 313 in the first 18-holes and is five
strokes ahead of British Columbia standing in fourth
with a 318. The host team Antelopes are in eighth after
day one with a 323.
Kerri Self of Tarleton State leads
the individual competition with a first round total, one
over par 73. There is a four-way tie for second. Katja
Trygg, Nicole Wyne, Kim Cammer and Tonya Choate are one
stroke behind the leader with a 74. Leading the Lady
Jackets and tied for seventy-sixth is Freshman Halley
Montalban (Fr., Billings, MT) shooting a front-nine 42
and back-nine 46 for a round of 88. Teammate Nicole
Salsbery (Fr., Malta, MT) shot an 18-hole total of 92
and is tied for ninety-third place.
The Lady Jackets will play the
final 18-holes Tuesday, March 29 at the Palm Valley Golf
Course in Goodyear, Arizona with a first tee time set
for 7 a.m.
