Larson in Middle of Pack at Golf Regional (May 2, 2005)
DAKOTA DUNES, SD – After a two hour
delay because of frost on the course, the men’s golf West
Regional completed first round play Monday afternoon at
the Dakota Dunes Country Club. Montana State-Billings
freshman Nicholas Larson is in the middle of the pack after a
12-over 84 on the par-72, 7,165-yard course left him in a
tie for 33rd place. Larson is competing as an
individual and is the first Yellowjacket to qualify for a
regional tournament in the program’s three year history.
Larson opened play on the back nine
Monday, starting with a birdie on the par-4 tenth hole.
He followed with a bogey and a par on the next two holes
before a triple-bogey seven bit him on No. 13. He
finished the first nine holes with a 5-over 41 after
carding four pars, three bogeys, a birdie and a triple.
Larson’s second nine started with a
double bogey on No. 1, dropping him to seven-over. After
back-to-back pars, a stretch of three straight bogeys
knocked him down to 10-over. He finished the first round
with two more pars and a double bogey.
The tournament’s individual leader is
Andy Moren of Cal State-Stanislaus who shot a 1-over 73 as
no player shot under par for the round. Play continues
Tuesday and Wednesday at the Dakota Dunes Country Club. |
