Yellowjacket Men Finish Fall Golf Odyssey at
Bakersfield (Oct. 17, 2004)
BILLINGS, MT – The Montana
State-Billings men’s golf team plays its final event of
the fall Monday and Tuesday when the Yellowjackets take on
the top teams in the West at the Cal State-Bakersfield
Invitational.
The Bakersfield tournament will be
the second in as many weeks for the Jackets in
California. They finished ninth at the Chico State
Invitational last week. CSU-Bakersfield took the team
title in Chico, edging St. Martin’s by one stroke. Both
teams will be at Bakersfield, which will feature 19 teams.
The Yellowjackets will use this
week’s tournament to gauge where they stand in the tough
West Region leading into the spring championship segment
of the schedule. Including the two trips to California in
the last two weeks, the Jackets also played at the Western
Washington Invitational in September. With the two
California tournaments, the Yellowjackets will wrack up
about 4,700 miles of driving and 108 holes of golf against
the best teams in the nation.
Chris McConnell (Jr., Lewistown, MT)
shot a 4-over 220 last week at Chico to lead the
Yellowjackets. He finished in sixteenth place, just two
strokes out of a top ten finish, with rounds of 72, 74 and
74. Chris Haas (Jr., Bozeman, MT) finished with an
11-over 227 to finish in a tie for 36th. |
