After playing for MSU Billings for four years and
completing her eligibility in 2003, Mandy Reed is returning to the
program as assistant coach for the 2004 season. A native of Denver,
Colorado, Reed was drawn to Montana by the friendly people and the
chance to build an up and coming soccer program. While playing for
Wheat Ridge High School she lettered three years and her team advanced
to the playoffs in three of her four years.
After graduating from high school, Reed went on to
play at MSU Billings, splitting her time by being coached two years by
Carlos Arce and two years by current head coach Don Trentham. While
playing for the Yellowjackets, she earned Pacific West Conference
all-conference honorable mention honors as a true freshman in 2000.
During her career she became a key defender for the Yellowjackets,
starting 60 games out of 63 in her career, currently giving her the
number four spot in the school career record book for most games
played and the number three spot for most games
started. While playing for the Yellowjackets, she was part of the squad
that posted the program's best-ever record, 9-9 in 2002.
While at MSU Billings, Reed has worked many spring
break and day camps that the school has provided youth soccer in the
city and surrounding areas. Reed was also a big part of organizing the
“Run to Red Lodge” fundraiser in 2003.
Her most memorable soccer moment was in the fall of
2003 during a nail biter against Chico State in California.
Reed recalls, “The team played the best I had ever
seen it play. We managed to stick around through regulation and went
into overtime where we hit the crossbar. Only in the last minutes of
overtime did Chico score to win the game. The loss was difficult to
swallow but it was made easier because we had played extremely well.”
“Mandy was a well respected player by her teammates
and her coaches. She was a good player and will be a great asset as a
coach for both our players and me,” says head coach Don Trentham. |
