Kevin Petritz enters his second year as
goalkeeper coach for the MSUB soccer programs, after finishing a three
year stint as a Yellowjacket goalkeeper. A native of Butte, America, he
is excited for the challenge of making the transition from player to
coach for both the men’s and women’s programs.
“This transition is going to be tough because my
passion to play is still there,” said Petritz, “but I feel that my
contributions to the team will be better served as a coach.”
Petritz attended Butte High School, where he
acquired 5 letters in both soccer (3) and in basketball (2). In his
senior year he was selected to the Montana Shodair All-Star team for
soccer and was awarded the 6th man award in basketball. He
played under Tony Campeau and was part of a Butte High squad that helped
turn around the high school soccer team, that until the year 2000, had
not had a winning season. He helped to change that by setting school
records in shutouts and wins.
“Tony is a great motivator, and brings a newer,
calmer side to the game of soccer. He expected a lot of me, and was
always the first person to pick me up when games went bad. Tony is the
main part of why Butte High School soccer is at the level it is today.”
During club soccer, Petritz played in two Region IV
tournaments and was on the first Butte team that won a competitive state
championship. The club teams highest placing was a quarterfinals
appearance in the regional tournament in Bakersfield, CA. That year
Kevin was awarded the most improved player by the coaches and players.
After high school, Petritz attended Montana State
University-Billings, and played under both Carlos Arce and Doug Seigle.
At Billings, Kevin played for three years before deciding to make the
move from player to coach.
“Those three years were some of the best years of
my life. I enjoyed playing for Coach Seigle and look forward to being
an assistant to both him and coach Trentham in the fall. The programs
are starting to move in the right direction, and I want to be there when
the men’s and women’s teams are among the best in Division II.”
Kevin is currently in his senior year and is
majoring in Management and Information Systems and is looking to
complete his degree in the fall of 2005. His parents are Don and Mary
Petritz both born and raised in Butte. |
