MSU Billings Harriers Run against Top Competition
at UNC (Oct. 11, 2003)
GREELEY, CO – The MSU Billings
cross-country teams faced their toughest competition
before the regional meet, running at the Northern
Colorado Invitational Saturday. Running against top
competition from outside of the region, the
Yellowjacket women finished eighth in the ten-team
race while the Yellowjacket men finished eighth in
an eight-team race.
Chelsea Lynnes (Jr., Miles City, MT) was
Jackets’ top finisher for the fifth-straight week,
placing 27th in a time of 20:14 over the
5K course. She was 1:48 behind race winner Brianna
Lippoldt of Fort Lewis College. Eight runners ahead
of Lynnes were from Division I schools. Lynnes was
followed by Anjel Hoff (Sr., Billings, MT) in 54th place in 21:02, Tracie Overberg (So., Dodson, MT) in 65th place in 21:46, Tiffany Piplica (Fr., Riverton, WY) in 69th place in 21:52, Kendra Bebee (So., Dillon, MT) in 80th place in 23:03, and Raquel McCarthy (Jr., Butte, MT) in 82nd place in 23:38.
The Yellowjacket men were led
by Scott Brown (So., Billings,
MT) for the second week in a row. Brown
finished the 8K course in 29:25, good for 47th place. Dennis Newell from Black Hills State won the
race in 25:00. A trio of Yellowjackets finished
within 16 seconds of each other for 56th,
58th and 59th places. Sam Hartpence (So., Custer, SD) completed the
course in 30:15, followed by Joe Kragt (Fr., Billings, MT) in 30:27 and Ryan Archibald (Jr., Missoula, MT) in 30:31. Sean Hannifin (Fr., Billings, MT) finished 68th with a time of 33:08 and Brendan Murray (Jr., Billings, MT) placed 70th in 34:05.
The Yellowjackets will host
Dickinson State and South Dakota Tech next Saturday
in the Yellowjacket Invitational at Riverfront
Park. There will be a fundraiser 5K fun run at 9:00
a.m. followed by the college race. For information
