Yellowjacket Harriers Battle Elevation, Top Teams
in Colorado (Oct. 4, 2003)
BOULDER, CO – The MSU Billings
cross-country teams faced the top NCAA II teams in
the nation Saturday at the Rocky Mountain Shootout,
with the women’s team finishing sixth and the men’s
team finishing ninth.
Chelsea Lynnes (Jr., Miles City, MT) finished
the 5.8K course in 23:42 for a 34th place
finish. The race was the first over 5,000 feet
elevation for the Yellowjackets this season. The
Lady Jackets finished sixth in the nine-team DII
race, with Adams State and Western State finishing
1-2. Anjel Hoff (Sr., Billings, MT) was the second
Yellowjacket to cross the finish line, placing 62nd in a time of 25:00, followed
closely by Tiffany Piplica (Fr., Riverton, WY) in
65th place with a time of 25:09. Also racing for MSUB was Tracie Overberg (So., Dodson, MT), finishing 77th in 25:56, Raquel McCarthy (Jr., Butte, MT) finishing 88th in 26:31, and Kendra Bebee (So., Dillon, MT) finishing 94th in 27:24.
The Yellowjacket men’s team
finished ninth in the nine-team race. Adams State
and Western State also finished 1-2 in the men’s
race. Scott Brown (So., Billings, MT) was the top
individual finisher for MSUB in 79th place. He completed the 8K course in 29:42. The
Yellowjackets’ top runner entering the meet, Joe Kragt (Fr., Billings, MT) didn't finish after experiencing respiratory
difficulties part way through the race, most likely
due to an existing cold and dusty conditions.
He is expected to return next week. Sam Hartpence (So., Custer, SD) placed 89th in 30:43, Ryan Archibald (Jr.,
Missoula, MT) placed 96th in
31:29, Brendan Murray (Jr.,
Billings, MT) placed 103rd in
34:32, and Sean Hannifin (Fr.,
Billings, MT) placed 104th in
35:15.
The Yellowjackets will return
to Colorado next week for the Northern Colorado
Invitational in Greeley. They will then host the
Yellowjacket Invitational, along with the annual
“Riverfront Ramble” fun run on October 25 at
Riverfront Park.
