Lynnes Wins Dickinson State Invitational to Lead
Jackets to Team Title (Sept. 27,
2003)
DICKINSON, ND – Chelsea Lynnes took top individual honors at the Dickinson State
University Invitational Saturday to lead the
MSU Billings women’s cross-country team to the team
title. Lynnes finished the 3.1-mile race in 20:21,
17 seconds ahead of the second place finisher.
The win is the first of the
year for both Lynnes and the Yellowjackets in three
starts. Lynnes also has a second and fourteenth
place finish to her credit this season. The
Yellowjackets took home four of the top seven spots
to finish with 24 total points, outpacing Dickinson
State with 31. Anjel Hoff finished fifth in 20:50, Tiffany Piplica finished sixth in 21:44, and Tracie Overberg finished seventh in 21:56. Raquel McCarthy came in ninth place in a time of 22:24, and Kendra Bebee placed twelfth in 23:08 to complete the
Jackets’ top six.
The Yellowjacket men finished
second to Dickinson State, trailing 19-37 in the
team standings. Freshman Joe Kragt led the team for
the first time this season with a ninth place finish
and a five-mile time of 28:54. A pack of
Yellowjacket runners finished in 9th-12th places. Kragt was followed by Sam Hartpence in
29:08, Scott Brown in 29:17, and Ryan Archibald in
29:29. Sean Hannifin and Brendon Murray rounded out
the Yellowjackets’ top six in times of 31:56 and
32:56 respectively.
Both Yellowjacket teams will be
at the Rocky Mountain Shootout next Saturday in
Boulder, Colorado. The meet is hosted by the
University of Colorado. |
