Yellowjacket Runners Finish Second, Third at
South Dakota Tech (Sept. 13,
2003)
RAPID CITY, SD – The
MSU Billings women’s and men’s cross-country teams
finished second and third respectively at the South
Dakota Tech Invitational on Saturday. Chelsea Lynnes (Jr., Miles City, MT) and Anjel Hoff (Sr., Billings, MT) each posted top
ten finishes to lead the women. Scott Brown (So., Billings, MT) finished 16th to pace the men.
Lynnes finished the 3700 meter
course in 15:17 to take third place overall, while
Hoff took ninth place in 15:56. Lynnes averaged
6:39 per mile and finished in the middle of five
Black Hills State runners. BHSU won the women’s
meet with 18 total points, outpacing the Jackets who
had 57. Rounding out the Yellowjackets’ top six
runners were Tiffany Piplica (Fr., Riverton, WY) in 13th place with a time of 16:15; Tracie Overberg (So., Dodson, MT) in 19th place with a time of 17:01; Raquel McCarthy (Jr., Butte, MT) in 20th place with a time of 17:22; and Kendra Bebee (So., Dillon, MT) in 24th place with a time of 18:10.
Brown averaged 6:05 per mile
over the men’s 6600 meter course to finish in
24:58. Black Hills captured the top eight spots in
the race and finished with 15 points. Dickinson
State finished second with 67 points, just ahead of
the Yellowjackets who totaled 77 points. Joe Kragt (Fr., Worden, MT) came in 18th place with a time of 25:17, followed by Sam Hartpence (So., Custer, SD) in 21st place with time of 25:46; Ryan Archibald (Jr., Missoula, MT) in 23rd place with a time of 26:04; Sean Hannifin (Fr., Billings, MT) in 29th place with a time of 27:54; and Brendan Murray (Jr., Billings, MT) in 30th place with a time of 30:13.
The Yellowjackets travel to
Bozeman next Saturday for the MSU-Bozeman
Invitational.
