Yellowjacket Invitational, Fun Run Set for
Saturday (Oct. 22, 2003)
BILLINGS, MT – The annual
Yellowjacket Cross-Country Invitational will be held
this Saturday at Riverfront Park. MSU Billings will
host Dickinson State, South Dakota Tech and Carroll
College in its only home meet of the year.
Preceding the college meet, the
Yellowjacket cross-country teams will host the
“Riverfront Ramble,” a public 5K race and fun run.
The “Ramble” is sponsored by ExxonMobile who will
provide the participants with long-sleeve shirts as
well as numerous awards and door prizes. The race
will begin at 9:00 a.m. with race day registration
starting at 7:30. Proceeds from the race support
the MSUB cross-country teams.
The college races will begin at
10:00 a.m. with the men’s 8K. The Yellowjackets,
who are coming of an off week, will be chasing
Dickinson State who has defeated MSUB each time
they’ve met this season. The women’s 5K is
scheduled to start at 10:45, and the Lady Jackets
will enter as the team favorites. Led by Chelsea Lynnes (Jr., Miles City, MT), MSUB has
edged Dickinson State each time they’ve raced this
year.
“We’re hoping to run closer to
their men’s team and give them a competitive race,”
said head coach Dave Coppock of DSU. “We also hope our women
can continue their streak. Dickinson’s teams are
talented and it should make for a couple exciting
races. Chelsea will be the top runner to watch in
the women’s race. She has placed first individually
against Dickinson all season and continues to
perform well as the NCAA West Regional Championship
meet approaches in November.”
