Bobcats Defeat Lady Jacket Netters in Season Opener (Jan. 24, 2004)
BILLINGS, MT – Montana
State-Bozeman swept the doubles matches in a 7-2
victory over Montana State-Billings Saturday
afternoon at the MSU Billings Indoor Tennis Center.
It was the 2004 spring season opener for both
squads.
The Bobcats took a 3-0 lead in
the match by sweeping the doubles matches. Vera
Vasileva and Ivette Duran defeated the
Yellowjackets’ Amanda Schlosser and Jenni Howe at #1
doubles, 9-7, in the closest match of the day.
Laurel Brown and Katy Clarke won #2 doubles, and
Remy Clark and Laura Richert took #3 doubles.
The Bobcats picked up singles
victories at #1, #2, #4 and #5 to seal the match.
The Jackets’ Becky Fry won at #3 singles, and Margot
Merrill-Johnson won at #6 singles. Both the
Yellowjackets men’s and women’s teams will be in
action at the Billings Open Doubles Tournament on
February 6-8. The Lady Jackets’ next official
matches will be February 14 and 15 at Lewis-Clark
State.
