Lady Jackets Shut
Out Laramie County CC in Preseason Tune-up (August 23, 2003)
BILLINGS, MT – The MSU Billings women’s
soccer team looked impressive in its preseason exhibition game
against Laramie County Community College on Saturday evening,
shutting out the Golden Eagles 4-0. Freshman midfielder Ally Taylor tallied four points as the new-look
Yellowjackets controlled play for 90 minutes.
Junior Margot Merrill-Johnson opened the scoring just 4:48 into
the contest with a header from the right side. She was assisted
by junior Candy Cherry and senior Mandy Reed. Taylor scored an unassisted goal just under
five minutes later to put the Yellowjackets ahead 2-0. Junior Heidi Robertson and junior transfer Megan Beckstead each found the net late in the game to
give MSUB its final margin. Taylor assisted on both of those
goals.
LCCC managed just one shot in the game as the
Golden Eagles were unable to threaten the goal against the
better-conditioned Yellowjackets. Alyssa Wolfer and Megan Plank shared time in goal for MSUB in the shutout.
MSU Billings will open its regular season
next Friday when the Jackets host St. Cloud State and East
Stroudsburg in the second annual MSU Billings Cup Sponsored by
Thrifty Car Rental. MSUB will face St. Cloud State on Friday and
East Stroudsburg on Sunday. SCSU and ESU will square off against
each other on Saturday. All games are slated for 1:00 p.m.
