Lady Jackets Improve in Final Round of Grand Canyon
Invitational (Mar. 30, 2004)
GOODYEAR, AZ – The Montana
State-Billings women’s golf team cut 11 strokes from
its first round total in Tuesday’s final round at
the Grand Canyon Invitational. Julie Clifford’s 64th-place
finish led the Yellowjackets, who tied the host
Grand Canyon for 17th-place at the par-72
Palm Valley Golf Club.
Clifford carded rounds of 83
and 87 to shoot a 26-over 170. Elizabeth Marshall
shot back-to-back rounds of 88 to finish in 71st place with a 32-over 176.
Emily Russell of Northern
Colorado won individual honors with a 7-over 151.
Western New Mexico, one of the Yellowjackets
conference opponents beginning next season when the
PacWest Conference adds golf as a championship
sport, won the team title with a 42-over 618. The
Mustangs shot the tournament’s best team round on
Tuesday with a an 18-over 306.
“We keep getting better, so I’m
happy with the progress,” said Yellowjacket head
coach Roger Burckley. “We beat our best team score,
which shows that we’re going in the right
direction. The girls are working hard to improve.”
The Yellowjackets continue
their spring schedule next week at the South Dakota
Invitational in Vermillion, SD. The event will be
held at The Bluffs Golf Club on April 4-5.
