Lady Jackets Treat Home Crowd with Offensive Show (Feb. 13, 2004)

BILLINGS, MT – Playing in front
of the home crowd for just the first time in almost
a month—and only the third time since December
1—Montana State-Billings rang up its second highest
point total of the season in a 91-67 victory over
Converse College (SC). The Yellowjackets evened
their season record at 11-11 while dropping the
All-Stars to 1-22.
Tanya Petersen’s career-high 26
points led the way for the Yellowjackets. She
scored 15 in the first half on 6 of 7 shooting from
the field as the Jackets built a 45-28 lead by
intermission. For the game she hit 11 of 17 from
the field and 3 of 4 from the free throw line.
Petersen scored four of the
Jackets’ first six points as MSU Billings built a
6-2 lead to start the game. Converse rallied with
an 8-1 run to lead 10-7 at the 15:52 mark of the
first half. Jenny Auer’s 3-pointer on the next
possession tied the game and the Yellowjackets
didn’t trail again.
The Yellowjackets built their
lead slowly over the next ten minutes, taking a
double-digit lead on a Jennifer Skrifvars layup with
6:15 to play in the half. After the All-Stars cut
the lead to 36-28 with 2:49 left in the opening
period, the Yellowjackets ran off nine unanswered
points to finish the half. Jenny Langford started
the run with a 3-pointer, and Petersen scored the
final four points of the half.
Petersen and Skrifvars scored
the first two baskets of the second half to give the
Yellowjackets a 21-point lead, and the All-Stars
weren’t able to get any closer than 15 for the
remainder of the game.
Junior Robyn Milne narrowly
missed her fourteenth double-double of the season
with 17 points and nine rebounds. She also blocked
three shots. Lisa Jellum finished with a
career-high 11 points and a game-high five assists.
Skrifvars and Langford also dished out five assists
apiece. Freshman Jessica Bratton added ten points
off the bench, connecting of 5 of 7 from the field.
The All-Stars were led by
Melissa Bunce’s 12 points. Lauren Mueller notched a
double-double with 11 points and ten boards, and
Brandi Criscitiello added ten points.
The Jackets and All-Stars meet
again on Saturday with tip off at 6:00 p.m. |
