Lady Yellowjackets Stall in Loss to Sonoma State (Nov. 18, 2003)
Box Score
BILLINGS, MT – The MSU Billings
women’s basketball team had its 31-game home winning
streak snapped Tuesday night in a 59-46 loss to
Sonoma State. The 46 points was the lowest home
point total since December 21, 1996 when the
Yellowjackets lost 59-46 to Lewis Clark State. The
last time the Lady Jackets lost a game at Alterowitz
was January 3, 2001 against Western Washington.
After scoring 82 points in a
fast-paced victory on Monday night, MSU Billings
could hardly find the basket Tuesday. The
Yellowjackets shot 29 percent from the field, 19
percent from 3-point range, and 48 percent from the
free throw line. The difference in Monday’s
win—3-point shooting—wasn’t a factor Tuesday. MSUB
made just three on 16 attempts, while the Seawolves
used four first half 3-pointers to build a lead that
they never relinquished.
Sonoma State (1-1) built a
38-35 halftime lead after leading by as many as
seven points in the first half. The second half was
a battle of attrition as neither team’s offense was
able to produce. The Seawolves outscored the
Yellowjackets 21-11 in the final 20 minutes. MSUB
didn’t score in the final 4:22 of the game following
a pair of Jenny Langford (So., Reedpoint, MT) free
throws, and Kayla Frize’s (Jr., Miles City, MT)
3-pointer at 5:25 was the Jackets’ last field goal
of the game.
Robyn Milne (Jr., Richey, MT)
notched her second double-double in as many nights
with 16 points and 11 rebounds, but she was just
2-of-10 from the free throw line as the Jackets only
made 11-of-23 from the charity stripe. Langford
finished with 11 points behind 6-of-8 shooting from
the line. After making five 3-pointers on Monday,
Langford was allowed just two 3-point attempts in
the game Tuesday.
The Yellowjackets (1-1) will
continue West Region play this weekend when they
take on Central Washington and Seattle Pacific in
Seattle. MSUB faced both teams in the NCAA
Tournament last season, defeating Central Washington
in the first round and losing out to SPU in the
regional semifinals. The Jackets’ next home game is
December 1 against Rocky Mountain.
