Lady Yellowjackets Roll Over Green Mountain Again (Jan. 17, 2004)
Box Score
BILLINGS, MT – Despite a slow
start and some cold shooting spells, MSU Billings
crushed Green Mountain College for the second
straight night, 79-31. Robyn Milne’s tenth
double-double of the season led the Lady Jackets,
who improved to 10-7. It’s the first time this
season that the Yellowjackets have been three games
over .500.
Neither team shot the ball well
to start the game. A pair of free throws by the
Eagles’ Bronya Shillo at 10:58 of the first half
drew Green Mountain to within one point of the
Jackets at 10-9. That was as close as the Eagles
would get for the rest of the game as they shot just
14.8 percent from the field in the first half and
14.0 percent in the game. Bronya scored a
team-high 12 for the Eagles, ten of which came in
the first half.
The Yellowjackets’ own cold
shooting in the opening stanza (28.2 percent) helped
the Eagles stay close for the first ten minutes, but
MSUB stretched its lead to 33-16 by halftime. Tanya
Petersen scored 11 of her 13 points in the first
half. She also blocked five first half shots en
route to a career-high seven blocks in the game,
tying her for the third highest single game total in
school history.
All ten Yellowjackets scored in
the game and none of the ten played fewer than 16
minutes. Milne saw the most minutes of any
Yellowjacket with 24 as Coach Melissa Slone
substituted liberally to get younger players more
experience. Freshman Shannon Harvey added ten
points and a career-high four rebounds.
In the two game set against the
Eagles, eight Yellowjackets achieved at least one
career high. Freshman Jessica Bratton scored eight
points and grabbed seven rebounds in 16 minutes of
action Saturday, reaching her career high for both
points and rebounds. Sophia Forney added eight
points and a career-best 12 rebounds.
The Lady Yellowjackets have two
important West Region road games next week when they
play at St. Martin’s College in Lacy, WA, on January
22. They will take on Northwest Nazarene January
23. That game will be a neutral site game also
played in Lacey. MSUB’s next home game is February
13 against Converse College of South Carolina.
After four road games, the Lady Yellowjackets’ final
six games of the season will be at Alterowitz
Gymnasium.
