Lady Jackets Close Season against MSU-Northern on
Katie Christiansen Night (Feb.
22, 2004)
BILLINGS, MT – The Montana
State-Billings women’s basketball team will put its
five-game winning streak on the line Monday night in
the Yellowjackets’ regular season finale against
Montana State-Northern. Tip off is set for 7:00
p.m. at Alterowitz Gymnasium for the 15-11
Yellowjackets and the 18-11 Lights.
Monday will also be Katie
Christiansen Night as the Yellowjackets honor the
longtime friend and supporter who passed away in
September. Katie’s husband, Nels Christiansen,
coached for many years at the school and has been
the crew chief for the Lady Yellowjackets’ bench
crew for 30 years. There will be a tribute to Katie
at halftime of Monday’s game.
MSU Billings swept three games
from Western New Mexico last week to reach its
longest winning streak of the season. A win Monday
would match the Yellowjackets’ longest winning
streak of the past two seasons at six games. They
won nine in a row during the 2001-2002 season.
Post players Tanya Petersen and
Robyn Milne lead the Yellowjackets both offensively
and defensively. Petersen leads the team in scoring
at 14.9 points per game and averaged 21 points in
the three wins last week. Milne averages a
double-double of 14.2 points and 11.7 rebounds. Her
304 rebounds this season are the third most in
school history for a single season, and her 72
blocked shots are second on the single season list.
Sophomore guard Jenny Langford
also averages double figures at 10.3 points per
game. Her 62 made 3-pointers this season tie her
for third in school history for threes made in a
single season. She is tied with her sister Joan’s
senior season total. Three more 3-pointers will
push Langford past Kami Malnaa for second on the
school’s single season list.
MSU-Northern defeated Rocky
Mountain College on Saturday in Billings. |
