2003)
Box Score
BILLINGS, MT – The MSU Billings volleyball team
dropped its second Pacific West Conference match in a row, falling 3-0
(30-21, 30-18, 30-26) to fourteenth-ranked Hawaii Pacific on Thursday
night. The Yellowjackets fell to 3-9 overall and 0-2 in the PacWest while
the Sea Warriors improved to 8-2, 2-0.
MSU Billings played even with the Sea Warriors for
the first 10-15 points of each game, but a combination of Yellowjacket
errors and powerful Sea Warriors kills broke each game open at the
midpoint. The Jackets had just a .130 team hitting percentage for the
match and committed eight service errors.
Olivia Munro (Jr., Toronto, Ontario) led MSUB with nine kills and added six digs. Cortney Metzler (Jr., Roundup, MT) added eight kills and three block assists. Alberta Letoa (Fr., Laie, HI) and Kari Jones (Jr., Hermiston, OR) split time at setter in place of
injured Natalie
Bills (So., Provo, UT). Bills is likely lost for the season due to a
shoulder injury. Jones finished with 14 assists and Letoa added 11 to go
along with her ten digs.
Sandra Brunke led all players with 12 kills for the
Sea Warriors, who posted a .314 team hitting percentage. Barbara Martin
and Nadica Karleusa added nine kills apiece. Martin, who leads the
PacWest in hitting percentage, hit at a .571 clip in the match. Vera
Oliveira tallied three service aces, 11 digs and 34 assists.
The Yellowjackets and Sea Warriors will meet again on
Friday night in a non-conference match starting at 7:00 p.m. at Alterowitz
Gymnasium. It will be the Yellowjackets’ final home match until October
31 when they host Chaminade. |
