Yellowjackets’ Fry Still Alive at Univ. of
Montana Invitational (Oct. 11,
2003)
MISSOULA, MT – After two days
of double-elimination play, MSU Billings tennis
player Becky Fry (Jr., Miles City, MT) will be the
only Yellowjacket still in contention on Sunday at
the University of Montana Invitational. Fry will
face Tara Fielding from the University of Idaho
Sunday at 9:30 a.m. in the quarterfinals of the
women’s singles consolation bracket.
Fry received a bye in the first
round of the main draw before losing to Gonzaga’s
Katie Sanders (6-4, 6-2). The loss bumped Fry to
the consolation bracket, where she defeated
Gonzaga’s Connie Head in three sets (6-4, 2-6,
10-7).
In the men’s singles main draw,
MSUB’s Jose Garcia (Jr., Elche, Spain) advanced to
the quarterfinals before losing to Montana’s Stan
Nevolovich (6-1, 7-5), who was seeded third in the
tournament. Garcia defeated Idaho’s Patrick Leitner
(6-1, 6-1) and Idaho’s Andy Faulman (7-5, 6-3) in
the opening two rounds. The Yellowjackets’ Sean
O’Daniel (Jr., Miles City, MT) defeated Idaho’s
Leitner in the consolation bracket (6-4, 6-3) before
falling to Montana’s Sean Stewart (6-1, 6-1). |
