MSU Billings Wraps Up Central Washington Invite with a Split (Mar. 7, 2004)

RICHLAND, WA – The Montana State-Billings
softball team split its final two games of the Central Washington
Invitational on Sunday, falling to Western Washington 7-0 before
defeating St. Martin’s 7-3. The Yellowjackets were 2-5 at the
tournament and are now 6-17 overall. They will continue their
spring break trip with a doubleheader at Northwest Nazarene on
Monday in Nampa, ID.
Joey Ehnes was the star of game two, pitching
a complete game for her fifth victory of the season. She struck
out eight with just one walk in seven innings. At the plate, she
went 3-for-4 with three doubles, an RBI and a run scored. Six
different Yellowjackets recorded RBI in the game.
MSU Billings opened the game with three runs
in the bottom of the first inning. Ehnes doubled to start the
inning and was driven in by Sara Hanley two batters later.
Hanley advanced to third on a fielder’s choice and scored on an
RBI single by Layne Pavey. A Cami Rainey double through the right
side plated Stephanie Cochrun before Pavey was thrown out at the
plate to end the inning.
The Yellowjackets tacked on two runs each in
the fourth and sixth innings, enough to hold of a three-run Saints
seventh inning rally. Ehnes, Anna Henderson and Aysha Blatter
each drove in runs for the Jackets.
Stats for the loss to Western Washington were
