HONOLULU, HI – After a fast start to the
season last week, the Montana State-Billings softball team lost
eight conference games in Hawaii this week, concluding with losses
of 1-0 and 4-2 to Chaminade on Sunday. The Jackets dropped to 0-8
in the PacWest and 4-10 overall. They are idle for the next two
weeks before playing at the Central Washington Invitational on
March 4-6.
“We’ve got some work to do to figure out a
way to finish people off,” said Yellowjacket head coach Jeff
Aumend. “We’ve probably been in a position to win 10 of the 14
games we’ve played. We just need to find a way to finish.”
Joey Ehnes took the loss in game one, falling
to 3-5 on the season with the 1-0 loss. Of her five losses, four
of them have been by either one or two runs. Ehnes gave up one
run in the first inning on an RBI single and held the Silverswords
scoreless for the rest of the game. The Yellowjacket offense
didn’t give her any help, managing just three hits in the game.
The Jackets jumped out to a two-run lead in
the top of the first inning in game two. Theresa Campbell’s
sacrifice fly plated Ehnes, and Layne Pavey drove in Sara Hanley
with an RBI single. The Silverswords rallied for three runs in
the third and another in the fourth for their third comeback win
over the Yellowjackets in two days. Stephanie Cochrun took the
loss after giving up four runs in 3 1/3 innings. Ehnes allowed
one hit and struck out five in 2 2/3 innings of relief. |
