Flathead Players Shine in Blue-White Scrimmage (Oct. 19, 2003)
KALISPELL, MT – Sunday was a happy homecoming
for at least two former Flathead High School players in the
MSU Billings softball team’s second Blue-White scrimmage of the
fall season. Jordan Waverek (Jr., Kalispell, MT) was the winning
pitcher in the White Team’s 5-4 win, and Caitlin Luehr (Fr.,
Kalispell, MT) drove in the winning run in the bottom of the
seventh inning.
The Yellowjackets were scrimmaging in
Kalispell in large part because of the four Kalispell natives on
the roster. In addition to Waverek and Luehr, junior Sara Hanley
and Luehr’s twin sister Natalie are former Bravettes that now play
for the Yellowjackets.
Waverek replaced Joey Ehnes (Jr., Great
Falls, MT) on the mound for the White Team and was the pitcher of
record when Luehr hit her bases-loaded single in the bottom of the
seventh inning to give the White the one-run victory. Layne Pavey
(Jr., Spokane, WA) and Theresa Campbell (Jr., Great Falls, MT)
each homered for the White.
Stephanie Cochrun (Jr., Lake Stevens, WA)
took the loss for the Blue Team after replacing starting pitcher
Megan McCrae (Jr., Brandon, Manitoba) and giving up the winning
run. Cochrun hit a solo home run to spark the Blue offense.
The Yellowjackets return home to close out
their fall schedule this Saturday with the Yellowjacket Fall
Invitational at Cenex Stadium. |
