Yellowjacket Softball Team Wins Two to End Fall Season (Oct. 25, 2003)
BILLINGS, MT – The MSU Billings softball team
won twice against Weber State’s club team Saturday to finish its
fall schedule unbeaten. Late-game fireworks in both games gave
the Yellowjackets wins of 11-2 and 14-5.
In the first game, the Yellowjackets and
Wildcats were tied 0-0 in the top of the fifth when Joey Ehnes
(Jr., Great Falls, MT) plated Christy Wankel (So., Great Falls,
MT) with a two-out RBI double. Stephanie Cochrun’s (Jr., Lake
Stevens, WA) single with the next at bat scored Ehnes to put MSUB
ahead 2-0. The Jackets then erupted for seven runs in the sixth
to blow the game open. Megan McCrae (Jr., Brandon, Manitoba)
pitches seven innings for the win, allowing six hits and striking
out five.
MSU Billings scored seven runs on eight
singles in the first two innings of the second game. Terilee
Ehnes (Sr., Great Falls, MT) and Joey Ehnes each scored in the
first and second innings. The Wildcats rallied to draw to within
two runs a 7-5 in the top of the fifth inning. MSUB answered with
seven runs in the bottom half of the inning, capped by a walk-off
three run homer from Theresa Campbell (Jr., Great Falls, MT),
ending the game via the eight-run rule. Joey Ehnes struck out
nine in the win, allowing six hits over five innings.
“Our offense continues to shine,” said
Yellowjacket head coach Jeff Aumend. “No matter how many outs,
strikes, or what type of pitcher we’re facing, we are confident at
the plate. We’re excited about our upcoming spring season.”
