Men’s Soccer Bumped off in Championship Game at Westminster
Tourney (Sept. 6, 2003)
SALT LAKE CITY, UT – The MSU Billings
Yellowjackets succumbed to six road games in ten days Saturday,
losing 4-0 to host Westminster in the Westminster Tournament
championship game. The Giffins extended a 1-0 halftime lead with
three second-half goals.
The Yellowjackets opened the season last
weekend in California and finished six road games in ten days with
the three-day tournament in Salt Lake City. The loss drops
MSU Billings to 3-2-1 overall. The Jackets were missing two
starters from Friday’s win due to injury.
“On the whole it was a successful trip,” said
head coach Doug Seigle. “We never gave up and we fought to the
end. It was good that everyone who made the trip saw playing
time. Today we were fatigued, but we also made a lot of mental
mistakes. The injuries and fatigue factor were challenges, but it
was the mental mistakes that cost us today.”
Detailed statistics weren’t available from
Westminster, who scored goals at the 20, 56, 73 and 83 minute
marks. Jess Feldtman (So., Lander, WY) gave up three of the
goals. Kevin Petritz (Jr., Butte, MT) replaced Feldtman and
allowed the final goal. The two combined for four saves.
The Yellowjackets will return to Billings for
the first time since they left August 26. They will next play
September 12 against University of Mary and September 13 against
Morningside University. Both games will be held in Bismarck, ND. |
