2003)

Score
BILLINGS, MT – The MSU Billings men’s soccer
team used a goal in the final minute of the first half and another
in the first minute of the second half Saturday to post a
come-from-behind 4-2 over the University of Mary. The
Yellowjacket improved to 6-7-1 for the season, dropping the
Marauders to 5-7-0. It was the Jackets'
second win over Mary this season, including a 3-2 overtime win in
Bismarck on September 12.
The Marauders’ Dave Cook gave Mary what
seemed like a commanding 2-0 lead in the first half, finding the
net in the 5th and 16th minutes. With time
expiring in the opening half, Dustin
Kono (So., Aberdeen, SD) beat two defenders through the box
and scored at 44:35 to cut the Mary lead to 2-1 at the break.
MSU Billings shifted the momentum completely
just 46 seconds into the second half when Thomas Pertuit (Jr., Billings, MT) scored on a feed from Andres Calabro (Sr., Cipolletti, Argentina), tying the score
at 2-2. It was Pertuit’s team-leading ninth goal of the season.
With the Marauders reeling, Brian
Palmer (Jr., Laramie, WY) took a long pass from Kono down the
right sideline, beating his defender and the goalkeeper for the
game winning goal in the 54th minute. Jesse
Spann’s (So., Rock Springs, WY) header in the 76th minute provided the final margin of victory for the
Yellowjackets. Billy
Dess (Sr., Great Falls, MT) found Spann with a precise
crossing pass for the assist.
The Yellowjackets will face Westminster
College on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. in the first game of a
men’s/women’s double-header at Yellowjacket Field. MSUB will be
trying to avenge a 4-0 loss to the Griffins a month ago in Salt
Lake City.
