MSUB Golfers Close Season with Second Place Finish (Apr. 26, 2004)
GREELEY, CO – The Montana
State-Billings men’s golf team shot its best two
rounds of the season on Monday to take second place
at the Northern Colorado Invitational. The
Yellowjackets and host Northern Colorado each shot
299 in the first round, but Bears’ second round 293
was enough to edge the Jackets by three strokes.
The tournament was originally scheduled for three
rounds with the final round on Tuesday, but was
shortened to a one-day tournament last week.
The Yellowjackets Chris Haas
and Chris McConnell tied for fifth in the individual
standings at 5-over 147. They had identical rounds
of 74 and 73. Andy Eames missed a top ten finish by
one stroke, tying for eleventh with a 9-over 151 on
the 6,723-yard, par-71 Highland Hills Golf Club.
Northern Colorado’s Mike Martin captured individual
honors with a 1-under 141.
“I’m really pleased with how
the guys finished,” said Yellowjacket head coach
Roger Burckley. “We were tied for the lead after
the first round and shot our best round of the year
in the second round. It was the first time this
year that we’ve been below 300 in both rounds of a
tournament.”
