Yellowjacket Golfers Have Rough Start at Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD,
CA – Facing five of
the top ten ranked teams in Division II, the Montana
State-Billings men’s golf team found itself in last
place at the Family Motors Invitational at Cal
State-Bakersfield on Monday. The first two rounds
of the three round tournament were held at the Seven
Oaks Country Club in Bakersfield on Monday. The
final 18 holes will be played Tuesday at Seven Oaks.
The Yellowjackets, who are
seeing their first extensive outdoor action of the
season, posted a 36-hole 652, 76 strokes over par.
Top ranked Cal State-Bakersfield holds a seven
stroke lead after setting a tournament 36-hole
record of 17 under par 559.
The tournament’s individual
leader is Ryan Thornberry of Cal State-Stanislaus,
who carded a 71 and a 68 to finish the first day at
five under. The Yellowjackets were led by Andy
Eames who shot rounds of 79 and 77 for a 12 over par
156. Chris McConnell’s second round 71 was the
Jackets’ lowest single round score of the day. Matt
Desin, who played for the Yellowjacket basketball
team on Tuesday and Thursday in Hawaii, shot rounds
of 87 and 80.
