Yellowjackets Crush Green Mountain with Tenth Highest Scoring

BILLINGS, MT – Cameron Munoz dropped in nine
3-pointers and scored a season-high 32 points Saturday night as
MSU Billings trounced Green Mountain College, 131-49. It was the
tenth highest single game point total in school history and the
largest margin of victory.
The Yellowjackets started the game with a 9-0
run behind two 3-pointers from Munoz and another from Dave Carse.
Munoz was 4-of-4 from 3-point range in the first six and a half
minutes of the game as MSU Billings built a 21-11 lead. The
Jackets made seven of their first ten attempts from the field
during that stretch.
Munoz’s hot hand cooled and he finished
9-of-16 from 3-point range and 11-of-19 from the field. One of
those eleven field goals was the 6-foot-3 guard’s first dunk as a
Yellowjacket, a two-handed reverse jam on a breakaway.
MSU Billings built a 58-20 lead by halftime,
shooting 57.5 percent from the field while holding the Eagles to
just 19.2 percent shooting. Three Yellowjackets scored double
figures in the first half, led by 15 from Jerett Skrifvars. The
senior captain also grabbed 12 first half rebounds to tie his
career high. He twisted his ankle late in the half and sat out
the second half as a precaution. Munoz netted 13 points in the
first half, and Buddy Windy Boy added 12. Windy Boy finished the
game with career highs for points (21), rebounds (8) and assists
(6).
The Yellowjackets’ hot shooting carried into
the second half, where they shot 65 percent from the field. They
finished the game 49-of-80 from the field and 20-of-42 from beyond
the arc. The 20 three-pointers tied for the sixth most in school
history.
Trae Fortier added 28 points on 11-of-16
shooting, increasing his PacWest leading scoring average to 22.7
points per game. Carse added 20 points and a career-high 12
assists. He made six 3-pointers on ten attempts and was 7-of-12
from the field.
The Yellowjackets have two days off before
their conference home opener on Tuesday. They will host
Hawaii-Hilo on January 20 and 22, and Chaminade on January 24.
Hawaii-Hilo is currently tied for first place in the PacWest and
was picked to win the conference in the preseason coaches’ poll.
