Munoz Named PacWest Player of the Week (Jan. 5,
2003)
BILLINGS, MT – Cameron Munoz, a sophomore
guard for the MSU Billings men’s basketball team, was named the
Pacific West Conference Player of the Week on Monday. Munoz
helped lead the Yellowjackets to a pair of West Region victories
last week, including an upset of second-ranked Humboldt State.
The 6-foot-3 southpaw from Chino, CA, scored
a team-high 18 points in the 79-78 win over Humboldt State. He
made three 3-pointers and was a perfect 9-of-9 from the free throw
line. Six of his free throws came in the final 1:50 of the game
as the Lumberjacks fouled to stop the clock. Munoz also grabbed
four rebounds and had one assist in 31 minutes of action.
In Saturday’s 72-70 win over Western Oregon,
Munoz hit four 3-pointers and finished with 17 points. He was
3-of-4 from the free throw line down the stretch to again help
seal the victory. Munoz pulled down a career-high eight rebounds
against the Wolves and handed out a team-high five assists while
playing all 40 minutes.
Through the first eight games of the season,
Munoz leads the Pacific West Conference for 3-point field goals
made per game (4.25) and 3-point percentage (.515). His 96 threes
as a freshman last season led the conference and ranked fifth in
the nation. He also currently ranks seventh in the conference for
scoring (18.1 ppg), second for field goal percentage (.552), and
ninth for steals per game (1.38). |
