Seniors Star in Yellowjacket Blue-Gold Scrimmage (Nov. 8, 2003)

BILLINGS, MT – Jerett Skrifvars (Sr., Brea,
CA) scored a game-high 27 points as upperclassmen dominated the
MSU Billings men’s basketball Blue-Gold Scrimmage on Saturday.
Skrifvars, who missed most of last season with hand surgery, was
9-of-11 from the field and 9-of-10 from the free throw line in 38
minutes as the Blue beat the Gold 103-70.
Skrifvars finished with a double-double,
adding 11 rebounds and four assists. Justin Hassell (Sr.,
Brooklyn, NY) and Dave Carse (Sr., Billings, MT) scored 22 and 15
points respectively as the three seniors combined for 64 of the
Blue’s 103 points. Hassell added nine rebounds and four assists
while Carse was 5-of-6 from 3-point range. Carse missed most of
last season with shoulder surgery.
Justin Hynes (Fr., Upland, CA) saw minutes
for both the Blue and the Gold, scoring a total of 22 points and
grabbing 14 rebounds. Trae Fortier (Jr., Los Angeles, CA) also
played for both sides, finishing with 24 points and 11 rebounds.
Between the two teams combined, the
Yellowjackets were 19-of-55 from 3-point range, looking much like
the running Yellowjacket teams of old. Carse, Hynes, Fortier,
Buddy Windy Boy (So., Lodge Grass, MT), Derek Taylor (Fr.,
Lewistown, MT), and Alex Galloway (Jr., Berkeley, CA) all hit
multiple threes in the game.
The Yellowjackets will play an exhibition
game Monday, November 10, against a team of former college
players. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Alterowitz
Gymnasium. The Montana AAU roster is expected to include Todd
Harris (Black Hills State), Adam Leachman (MSU-Bozeman), Max Soft
(Indiana Wesleyan), Steven Wieder (Minot State), Rick Watson
(Sheridan CC), Jason Mims (Eastern Montana), Jethro Wilson
(MSU Billings), Rodney Owens (Rocky Mountain), Rollie Frye
(Jamestown), and Eddie Cochrun (MSU Billings).
MSU Billings will play a second exhibition
game on November 17 prior to the women’s game and open the regular
season on November 22 at home against Minot State. |
