Yellowjackets Run Past Montana AAU in Exhibition (Nov. 10, 2003)

BILLINGS, MT – Six players scored in double
figures Monday night as the MSU Billings men’s basketball team
rolled over a Montana AAU team, 121-71. Trae Fortier (Jr., Los
Angeles, CA) scored a game-high 24 points on 10-of-14 shooting
from the field.
Nine of the Yellowjackets’ 18 first half
field goals came from 3-point range and MSU Billings finished the
game with 19 threes. Buddy Windy Boy (So., Lodge Grass, MT) had a
game-high five threes on seven attempts for all 15 of his points
in the game. Fortier and Dave Carse (Sr., Billings, MT) each hit
four from behind the arc and Alex Galloway (Jr., Berkeley, CA)
made three. Galloway scored 22 points and Carse added 16 to go
with nine assists.
Montana AAU was led by Jethro Wilson’s 19
points. Adam Leachman added 17 points and Max Soft scored 12.
Wilson, Soft and Eddie Cochrun each grabbed eight rebounds.
Jerett Skrifvars (Sr., Brea, CA) and Cameron
Munoz (So., Chino, CA) each scored ten points as four of the
Yellowjackets’ five starters reached double figures. The fifth
starter, Justin Hassell (Sr., Brooklyn, NY) scored eight.
Skrifvars, who was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line,
also added six assists.
The Yellowjackets will play one more
exhibition game on Monday, November 17, before opening the season
on November 22 at home against Minot State.
The first $1000 “Jacket Jackpot” of the
season went unclaimed with the money carrying over to the next
drawing. First Interstate Bank in the Billings Heights sponsored
Monday’s “Jacket Jackpot” and also covered the admission price for
all fans in attendance. Twenty Jackpots of $1000 will be given
away this season, sponsored by 20 different local businesses. To
win the $1000 pot each night, the person whose name is drawn from
the bin must be present at the second full time out of the second
half. Contestants can enter the drawing for $1 at each home men’s
game with their names remaining in the pot the entire season.
