Three Sign to Play for Yellowjacket Golf Team (Apr. 23, 2004)
BILLINGS, MT – Montana
State-Billings golf coach Roger Burckley announced
his first three national letter of intent signings
for the 2004-2005 seasons. Two high school golfers
from Montana and one from Wyoming have signed to
play for the MSU Billings men’s team next season.
Jay Bond of Sidney, Mont., was
a four year letterman in high school and will
graduate from Sydney High School. He also played at
Torrington High School in Wyoming. Bond has posted
over 15 career victories and was the conference
champion in 2002 and the runner up in 2001.
“Jay had a great high school
career that started in Wyoming and ended in
Montana,” said Burckley. “Our program needed to
land a few of the top players from our state, and
Jay definitely fits that bill.”
Nicholas Larson of Riverton,
Wyo., will graduate from Riverton High School as a
four year letterman. He has been a three-time
all-conference winner, including two conference
championships. He has also been a two time
all-state winner, placing third and fourth in the
past two seasons. So far in his senior season, he
has won four tournaments with two other top four
finishes.
“Nicholas is one of the top
junior golfers out of the state of Wyoming,” said
Burckley. “I’m excited he has decided to cross the
state line and become a Yellowjacket. We feel
Nicholas can join our men’s team and be productive
right away as a freshman.”
Jason Kinsey of Glendive,
Mont., was a four year letterman and has ten top
five finishes. He helped the Red Devils to third
place finishes at the Class B state tournament in
2002 and 2003. He was an all-conference winner in
2002-2003 and won the Darwin Miller Award as the
Outstanding Golfer of the Year three times at Dawson
County High School.
“Jason is another nice addition
from Montana,” said Burckley. “He has the desire
and work ethic that could result in immediate
contributions to the Yellowjacket golf program.”
Burckley expects to sign at
least three more men’s players in the near future,
along with five additions to the women’s program.
The Yellowjackets will compete in the Pacific West
Conference beginning next season. The PacWest
includes BYU-Hawaii, Chaminade University, Hawaii
Pacific, Hawaii-Hilo and Western New Mexico. |
