Yellowjacket Golf Teams Continue Busy Spring with
Trips to Colorado and California (Apr. 9, 2004)
BILLINGS, MT – The busy spring
schedule continues for the MSU Billings golf teams
this weekend as both teams fly south for tournaments
on April 12 and 13. The Yellowjacket men’s team
will be playing at the 31st Annual
Stanislaus Invitational in Turlock, Calif., while
the Lady Yellowjackets will be at the 8th Annual Bear Spring Invitational in Greeley, Colo.
The Yellowjacket men’s team
recently finished sixth at the South Dakota
Invitational. Chris Haas, a sophomore from Bozeman,
led the Jackets with back-to-back rounds of 74 for a
4-over 148 for the two days. Seniors Judd Norman of
Laurel and Andy Eames of Billings each carded 154
for the two-day tournament.
The Stanislaus Invitational
will be held at the Turlock Golf and Country Club
with a 6,641-yard, par-72 configuration. The
tournament will be a 54-hole format, with 36 holes
on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday. Practice rounds
will be held Sunday. The tournament will feature
seven of the top eight ranked teams in the West
Region, including No. 1 Chico State, No. 2 Cal
State-Bakersfield, No. 3 Cal State-Stanislaus, No. 4
UC-San Diego, No. 5 Western Washington, No. 7
Hawaii-Hilo and No. 8 Cal State-San Bernardino.
The Lady Yellowjackets placed
eighth at the South Dakota Invitational led by Julie
Clifford’s 29th-place showing with a
two-round total of 180. Clifford, a sophomore from
Forsyth, Mont., has led the team in the past several
tournaments. Elizabeth Marshall, a sophomore from
Worland, Wyo., placed 33rd with a 183.
The Bear Spring Invitational is
hosted by the University of Northern Colorado. The
tournament will be held at the Pelican Lakes Golf
and Country Club with a 6,039-yard, par-72
configuration. A 36-hole format will be used, with
18 holes played on Monday and the final 18 on
Tuesday. Practice rounds will take place Sunday.
Participating teams will include Northern Colorado,
Fort Hayes State, Chadron State, Grand Canyon,
Nebraska-Kearney and Mesa State. Mesa State is
ranked tenth in the West Region.
The women’s team will complete
its season April 19-20 at the Nebraska-Kearney
Invitational. The men’s team will also play at
Kearney before finishing its season at Northern
Colorado on April 26-27. |
