Yellowjacket Cheer Camp in Full Swing with Record
Attendance (August 13, 2003)
BILLINGS, MT – That noise
Billings residents are hearing reverberating off the
rims this week is the sound of over 250 cheerleaders
attending the MSU Billings Cheer Camp. The
Yellowjacket Cheer Team and head coach Dani Ruoff
are hosting the largest cheer camp in the state this
week, with up to 315 participants scheduled to
attend.
The Yellowjacket Cheer Camp is
a four-day high school cheer and stunt camp that
runs through Saturday with campers either
participating all week or just on Friday and
Saturday. The camp opened Wednesday morning with
261 cheerleaders from around the region checking in
at Alterowitz Gymnasium. By this weekend, Ruoff
expects the number of participants to reach 315,
making it the largest camp of its kind in Montana.
In addition to the cheerleaders, there will be 41
high school cheer coaches involved, plus nationally
known cheer coach L.A. Anderson.
“We’re just really pleased with
how this camp has grown,” said Ruoff who has been
the Yellowjacket cheer coach since 1997. “It’s
exciting for our team because we have worked so hard
to establish our program and this camp. I think it
says a lot about our kids and the program overall
that this has become the biggest camp in the state.”
Most of the camp’s practice
sessions will take place on the lawns surrounding
McMullen Hall. Wednesday’s and Thursday’s sessions
will run from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
to 6:00 p.m. On Friday the practice session will
run from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. with a performance at
Montana Fair at noon. Saturday morning’s session
will be a three hour stunting clinic from 9:00 a.m.
to noon, followed by a cheer-off at Rimrock Mall at
