Yellowjacket Assistant Basketball Coach Resigns (July 28, 2003)
BILLINGS, MT – MSU Billings
head men’s basketball coach Craig Carse announced
Monday that assistant coach Brent Montague has
resigned to pursue an opportunity in the private
sector. The resignation will be effective July 31.
“Brent
has been the concrete that reinforced what our
program represents,” said Carse. “He is also my
most loyal friend. He will be hard to replace, but
I’ll start searching immediately for someone who can
come in and fit with our program.”
Montague has been an assistant
coach for the Yellowjackets since graduating from
the school in 1996. He played two seasons for MSUB
and helped lead the Jackets to the NCAA Tournament
in 1996. Beginning in 2000, Montague became a full
time employee at MSUB after taking over as the
Athletics Department’s compliance coordinator.
In Montague’s senior season,
the Yellowjackets reached the NCAA Tournament for
the first time after a nine-year drought. He
averaged 19.4 points and 8.6 rebounds per game that
year, leading MSU Billings to the Pacific West
Conference title. That was the same year that the
Yellowjackets knocked off Oregon State on the
Beavers’ home court. Considered one of the
cornerstones in the rejuvenation of the Yellowjacket
basketball program, Montague was inducted into the
MSU Billings Hall of Fame and Distinction in 2002.
“I thank Coach Carse and Dr.
Gray [MSU Billings Athletics Director] for the
opportunity they gave me at MSU Billings,” said
Montague. “It was definitely time well spent. It
is just time for me to move on to something
different.”
Montague and his wife, Krista,
had their second daughter in June. Krista, also a
MSUB alum and former basketball player, is the
Yellowjackets’ Director of Development and
Marketing. |
