MSU Billings Accepting Nominations for Athletic Hall of Fame (Dec. 11, 2003)
BILLINGS, MT – Dr. Gary Gray, Director of
Intercollegiate Athletics at Montana State University-Billings,
announced today that the MSU Billings Athletics Department is now
accepting public nominations for the school’s Athletic Hall of
Fame and Distinction. The 2004 induction ceremony and brunch is
slated to take place on February 14. Nominations for the class of
2004, which will be accepted through December 31, can be submitted
by calling 657-2369 or by emailing Dr. Gray at ggray@msubillings.edu.
To be eligible for induction into the
MSU Billings Athletics Hall of Fame and Distinction, a candidate
must have been out of the Yellowjacket Athletics program for at
least five years. Therefore, inductees of the class of 2004 must
have been away from MSU Billings since at least 1998.
It is not mandatory that an inductee graduate
from MSU Billings. Typically when a person is inducted without
graduating, there are extenuating circumstances that precluded the
inductee’s continuing at MSU Billings.
Nominated candidates should have
distinguished themselves as student-athletes or in some other way
while they were Yellowjackets or since the time that they left
MSU Billings. Some inductees into the Yellowjacket Hall of Fame
have distinguished themselves in their professional fields since
graduating from MSU Billings.
As of Wednesday, December 10, there have been
16 candidates nominated for this year’s induction class. Since
1990, when the school’s hall of fame was started, there have been
95 inductees. In recent years, induction classes have averaged
approximately five inductees. |
