MSU Billings Announces Fall Sports
Schedules (July 7, 2003)
BILLINGS, MT
– The 2003-2004 schedules for fall sports at MSU Billings are set
and will feature 23 home events plus three additional events at
other locations in Billings. Women’s volleyball and women’s
soccer will account for 23 of those 26 local contests.
The Lady
Yellowjacket volleyball schedule is highlighted by three matches
against defending national champion BYU-Hawaii. MSUB will make
its annual trip to Hawaii October 3-8 for PacWest Conference play
against BYU-Hawaii, Chaminade, Hawaii Pacific and Hawaii-Hilo.
The Jackets will start the season with tournaments at Colorado
Christian and Humboldt State before opening the home schedule
against cross-town rival Rocky Mountain College on September 17.
Also featured on the MSUB schedule is a rare opportunity to play
Division I MSU-Bozeman. The Yellowjackets and Bobcats will square
off November 4 at Skyview High School.
The MSUB
women’s soccer schedule features nine home dates including a
season-opening tournament. The Jackets will host St. Cloud State
and East Stroudsburg August 29-31 in the second annual
MSU Billings Cup Sponsored by Thrifty Car Rental. MSUB will then
play nine midseason road games in four weeks, including games
against four teams that were ranked in the top ten of the Far West
Region last year. The Yellowjackets will return to Yellowjacket
Field for the season’s final five games. Included in that home
stretch will be matches with Rocky, Northern Colorado and North Dakota. UNC and UND were both ranked in the top ten in
the Central Region last year.
The men’s
soccer team will again play a majority of its games on the road,
hosting only Westminster and the University of Mary in a tournament in October. The Jackets will play their road
games in groups of two and three games in order to reduce missed
class time. They will have three trips during which they play
three games in a weekend. Included will be tournaments at
Humboldt State and Westminster.
The
Yellowjacket cross-country schedule will be similar to the past
several seasons’. The Jackets will hold their high altitude
training camp at Silver Gate, Mont., August 29 to September 1.
They will then compete in five meets before hosting the
Yellowjacket Invitational on October 25. Included in their road
meets are big races at Montana State-Bozeman and the University of Colorado.
The Yellowjackets will conclude the season at the NCAA West
Regional in Pomona, CA on
November 8 and the NCAA Championships in Edwardsville, IL on
November 22.
