Lady Yellowjackets Drop Soccer Match to Jamestown (October 19, 2002)
JAMESTOWN,
ND – The MSU Billings women’s soccer team
fell 4-2 Saturday at Jamestown College. Despite
out-shooting the Jimmies 25-10 in the game, the
Yellowjackets trailed 3-1 at halftime en route to
the defeat.
Jamestown jumped on top early,
scoring goals in the 7th and 21st minutes for a 2-0 lead. Vicky McCarthy’s second
goal of the season pulled the Jackets to within 2-1
in the 30th minute. Margot
Merrill-Johnson was credited with the assist.
McCarthy’s goal was the only shot-on-goal for MSUB
in the first half.
The Jimmies closed the opening
half with a goal in the 43rd minute to
take a 3-1 lead. Jamestown avenged a October 5th 2-0 loss to the Yellowjackets in Billings.
After Jamestown scored its
fourth goal in the 43rd minute,
Merrill-Johnson netted her third goal of the year in
the 49th minute. The Yellowjackets
managed five other shots-on-goal in the second half,
but all five were saved by the Jimmies’ goalkeeper.
Merrill-Johnson led MSUB with nine shots on the day.
MSU Billings fell to 2-12 on
the season with two games remaining. The
Yellowjackets will host Embry Riddle on October 25
and Carroll College on October 27 to finish the
season. Both matches will be at Yellowjacket Field
at the MSU Billings COT, with the ERU game starting
at 3:00 p.m. and the Carroll game starting at 2:00
p.m. The games will be part of the Yellowjacket
Soccer Classic sponsored by Rimrock Inn. |
