Yellowjackets Pound North Greenville at Converse

SPARTANBURG, SC – The
MSU Billings women’s basketball team, ranked No. 4
in the West Region, crushed North Greenville College
71-34 at the Converse College Tournament.
Double-doubles from Natalie Visger and Robyn Milne led the Yellowjackets, who improved to 19-6. The
Crusaders fell to 8-16.
In the clash between East and
West, the mismatch was evident early. The
Yellowjackets raced to a 40-15 halftime lead and
held the Crusaders to just 18.5 percent shooting
from the field in the half. Milne scored 10 of her
12 points in the opening half as eight different
Yellowjackets found the scoring column.
The Yellowjackets kept the
clamps on the Crusader offense in the second half,
holding them to just 15 percent from the field. NGC
made only 12-of-73 field goal attempt in the game.
The Yellowjackets are currently ranked 19th in NCAA Division II for field goal percentage
defense, holding opponents to just 35.8 percent.
All nine Yellowjackets scored
in the second half as they pulled away for their
easiest win of the year. The 34 points allowed tied
for tenth lowest in MSUB school history. It was the
lowest point total allowed since a 78-32 victory
over Alaska-Anchorage February 5, 1998. The school
record for the fewest points allowed was set in a
56-10 win over Northern Montana College on February
21, 1974.
Senior center Jessie Henigman blocked eight shots as the Yellowjackets tied the
school record for blocked shots in a game with 12.
Henigman was just one block shy of her own single
game record of nine. She also added 10 points and
five rebounds. She now has 89 blocked shots for the
year and 260 for her career. She now moves into the
No. 16 spot in NCAA II history for career blocked
shots. She needs seven more to tie for No. 15.
Visger finished with 13 points
and 12 rebounds. Milne had 12 points and 12
boards. Joan Langford hit three three-pointers for
12 points.
North Greenville’s Earlana
Jackson scored 11 to lead the Crusaders, connecting
on 5-of-11 from the field. No other Crusader made
more than two field goals.
The Yellowjackets will face
Nova Southeastern on Saturday in their final regular
season game of the year. They will then await the
NCAA Tournament pairings that will be announced on
March 9. |
