Yellowjacket Softball Drops PacWest Opener; Second
Game Rained-out (February 21,
2003)
BILLINGS, MT – The MSU Billings
softball team lost its Pacific West Conference
opener Friday afternoon, 5-2 at Hawaii Pacific.
MSUB fell to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the PacWest.
HPU improved to 6-1, 1-0. The Yellowjackets held a
5-2 lead after four innings of the second game
before it was postponed due to rain.
Megan McCrae pitched six innings in game one,
giving up five runs and walking six in picking up
the loss. McCrae gave up a fourth inning bases
loaded triple to Jamie Reyes that blew open the
game. Christy Wankel and Theresa Campbell were each 1-for-3 with an RBI
for the Yellowjackets.
MSU Billings fell behind 2-0 in
the second inning of game two, but rallied for four
runs in the top of the third. Joey Ehnes, Cami Rainey and Meghan O’Donnell each doubled in the rally. The
Jackets added another run in the top of the fourth
inning before the game was stopped because of rain.
The teams will try to finish
the game at noon HST on Saturday. The conclusion of
that game will be followed by another scheduled
double-header. Ehnes was on the mound for the
Jackets, spreading four hits over four innings and
striking out four. Play was suspended after the
bottom of the fourth. The Yellowjackets will be
batting with a three-run lead. Rainey is 2-for-2
with two runs scored. Michelle Falsken is 2-for-3 with a run scored
and an RBI.
