Yellowjackets, Silverswords Split for Second Time (April 13, 2003)
BILLINGS, MT – For the second
day in a row, Chaminade won the first game of a
softball double-header and MSU Billings won the
second. MSU Billings moves to 10-15 overall and 3-9
in the PacWest. Chaminade is 9-28, 4-16.
Day two between the Jackets and
Swords was almost a carbon copy of day one.
Chaminade won by one run in the first game with
Donnell Wittekind earning the win and Megan McCrae
taking the loss. The Yellowjackets won in a blowout
in game two with Joey Ehnes picking up the win.
The Silverswords used a
four-run sixth inning to take a 5-2 lead in the
first game Sunday. Two Yellowjacket errors combined
with four Chaminade hits opened the scoring
floodgates. Chaminade’s Shanelle Yamane and Heidi
Garcia each went 2-for-3 in the game with two RBI.
The Yellowjackets rallied in
the bottom of the seventh for two runs. Michelle
Falsken hit a solo home run over the right field
fence with one out to draw the Jackets to 5-3.
McCrae, pinch running for Theresa Campbell who had
doubled, scored on a Terilee Ehnes double. The
rally ended with a Cami Rainey fly out to left.
Falsken, Campbell and Ehnes were each 2-for-4 in the
game.
The Yellowjackets jumped all
over Loihi McKeague early in game two, scoring all
eight of their runs in the second inning. Terilee
Ehnes scored twice and Falsken drove in two runs in
the inning to ignite the rally. The lead was more
than enough for pitcher Joey Ehnes, who scattered
six hits over 5 1/3 innings to improve to 5-3.
Stephanie Cochrun pitched the final 1 2/3 without
allowing a hit.
Falsken was 2-for-2 in the
second game and 6-for-10 in the four-game series.
She scored three runs and tallied five RBI for the
weekend. Layne Pavey went 2-for-3 with an RBI and
run scored in the final game. Terilee Ehnes was
1-for-1 with a two-RBI triple and two runs scored.
The Yellowjackets will be at Minot State on April 16 and at Dawson CC on
April 17. They will host a club team from Eastern
Washington on Friday the 18th. The first
game of a double-header with EWU is set for 3:00
p.m. at Cenex Stadium.
In the first
Yellowjacket Slowpitch Home Run Contest held before
Sunday's games, Tom Love hit five dingers in the
preliminary round and four in the finals to win
first place. Love won half of the $110 entry
fee pot and donated his winnings back to the
softball program. |
